Privacy Policy — ABVYM Unit Guide

This policy explains how the ABVYM Unit Guide mobile application (“the app”) handles information. The app is published by Akhil Bharat Vivekananda Yuva Mahamandal (“the Mahamandal”, “we”, “us”), Head Office: 6/1A, Justice Manmatha Mukherjee Row, Kolkata 700009.

In short

The app is built to work offline and does not collect personal information on any server of ours. It has no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party tracking.

Information the app handles

Details you choose to send. On the “Send money” page you may enter a name, postal address, PIN code, PAN or Aadhaar number, the purpose of the payment, and one of two declarations: that you are an Indian citizen, or that you are an entity registered in India. The declaration is collected to meet the requirements of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 and its amendment rules: as the Mahamandal is not registered under that Act, it may accept donations only from Indian citizens and from entities registered in India (trusts, societies, companies), from any country and in any currency permitted under Indian law. These details are used for one purpose only: to prepare an e-mail that you then send, from your own e-mail app, to the Mahamandal’s office, so that the donation can be acknowledged and correctly accounted for. The app does not send these details to any server of ours and does not keep them after you leave that page.

Content updates. So that the guidance can be corrected without releasing a new version, the app occasionally downloads its question-and-answer content from a file we host on GitHub. This is a one-way download; the app sends no personal information in order to receive it. As with any internet request, your device’s IP address may appear in the host’s ordinary server logs (GitHub is operated by Microsoft and is governed by its own privacy policy).

App settings. Your chosen language (English, Hindi, or Bengali) is stored only on your device.

Donations. Bank and UPI details are shown so that you can pay using your own UPI or banking app. Any payment takes place entirely within that app or your bank. The ABVYM Unit Guide app does not process payments and never sees your banking credentials or PIN.

Permissions

The app requests only Internet access, used solely to check for and download updated content. It does not access your location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos, or personal files.

Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information. The only outward flow of information is the e-mail that you yourself choose to send to the office with the details you typed. Content is hosted on GitHub for download; no user data is provided to GitHub by us.

Storage and security

The downloaded content and your language choice are kept in the app’s private storage on your device. The details you type on the “Send money” page exist only while that page is open and are cleared afterwards. You can remove all of the app’s stored data at any time from your phone’s Settings ▸ Apps ▸ ABVYM Unit Guide ▸ Storage.

Who the app is for

The app is intended for members, workers, and volunteers of the Mahamandal, and for members of the public interested in its work. It is not directed at children.

Asking a question

The “Ask a question” screen lets you send a question to the office, together with your name and phone or WhatsApp number (and, optionally, your place) so the office can reply. It works like the donation page: it opens your own e-mail app with these details filled in, which you then review and send, and the office replies to you by e-mail or phone. The app does not store this information or send it to any server of ours. (A future version may keep questions and replies inside the app using a sign-in; if that is ever added, this policy will be updated first.)

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date above will show when it was last changed.
